Garden Pumps
Most water garden pumps are used to both filter water and run moving water such as waterfalls or fountains.
There are 2 basic types:
1. Submersible
These pumps used to be put right into the bottom of the pond, although today, you are more likely to find them located inside of a skimmer box. They are easy to install and can be fairly efficient.
The cost range varies by quality and energy efficiency.
Pumps referred to as "mag drive" are very efficient submersibles up to about 3,000 gallons per hour.
2. Above Ground Pumps
These pumps are more efficient althoug rarely used in
todays average water garden. More plumbing is required and they cost from about $300 to about $600.
We like to use a variable speed above ground pump whenever possilbe as these pumps are very functional and energy efficient as they can be slowed down when not needed for waterfalls or fountains are being used or viewed. Fro serious water these pumps are great.
